I also tried to view from the tuner in TVTime. But when it comes to these types of things, I a) can't wrap my head around it, and b) just have no idea of exactly what to do. I suspect (possibly wrongly, I might add) that this is what needs to be done. However, when it comes to modprobing modules and knowing what goes where, I'm rather lost. I suspect that if I can get my system to recognize the tuner as a v4l2 device, instead of recognizing it as a webcam, that I'd have a LOT less trouble getting this thing set up.

I don't see mention of v4l2 or the em28xx device in either of the modprobe files (should there be?). # this file is for module-init-tools (kernel 2.5 and above) ONLY # a `#', and everything on the line after them are ignored. # to be loaded at boot time, one per line. # This file should contain the names of kernel modules that are Snd 36398 20 snd_usb_audio,snd_usbmidi_lib,snd_rawmidi,snd_hda_codec_hdmi,snd_hda_codec_realtek,snd_hda_codec_generic,snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec,snd_hwdep,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq,snd_seq_device,snd_pcm_oss,snd_pcm,snd_timer,snd_mixer_ossįirewire_core 37387 2 firewire_ohci,firewire_sbp2Ĭode: # /etc/modprobe.preload: kernel modules to load at boot time. BUT, this computer doesn't even have a webcam.

Problem 1: PCC recognizes the tuner as a webcam, instead of a V4L2 device! I was able to find some firmware files for this tuner on the openelec git repository, and I was able to install the firmware files (previously missing) in /lib/firmware. Both the laptop and the HTPC are fully updated, and both are running the Xfce desktop (so KDE-only solutions aren't going to be much help). I originally bought this for my HTPC (as described in the magazine a couple of months ago), but an trialing it on my laptop. I was really hoping that this would be (more or less) plug and play. But getting it to work appears to be for the not so faint of heart. I got it primarily because of the good reports on Newegg of this particular USB TV Tuner stick working with Kodi, and Linux in general. I just purchased a KWorld UB435-Q USB TV Tuner stick.
